Re - creation of Barabara Kruger Assignment

Barbara Kruger Relection:

1. What do you see in this piece of Art?

In my art I see a girl who is trying to be perfect like a porcelain doll. She is trying to be society's version of "perfect", but in fact, it is killing her inside to be the way she is/ looks. The doll in the back represents how she is trying to be perfect and trying to make herself better, when in fact she was beautiful in the first place. This is critiquing society and how they are trying to make girls change their image to impress the world around them. Media is portraying the way they think we should look, but they way they portray is dangerous and ridiculous.

2. What kind of message did you try to give in this piece of art?

The message I tried to give this piece of art, is that girls/ guys don't need to change the way they look to impress the world around them. People go on diets and are "photo shopped" to look the way they do in fashion shows and on magazines. Doing these kind of diets to make you skinny or lose wait is very dangerous and could potentially kill you. This piece of art shows how being a "porcelain doll" or going on diets to portray the medias view of perfect can kill your soul, personality, and eventually ... even yourself.

3.  Do you like or dislike this piece of art?  Why?

Yes I like this piece of art because it shows what following the media can do to you. Being like everyone else and following trends is not always a good thing. Being yourself is better than changing yourself to make people like you. I love the message of this piece of art and what it represents. Also,I Iike the colours I decided to use and the way the they stand out on the page. Finally, I like the porcelain doll in the back round, it makes the picture literal , but also makes you think of a deeper meaning to the art.

Flash Game Recreation:

1. What aspect of your finished work do you find most successful and why?

The aspect of my finished work I find most successful is the animations I created within the game. I created a bird flying through the screen on the last level, and hot air balloons flying in the second and third levels as well. These tweens that I created turned out extremely well and I believe that this was the best part of my game. The animations made the game slightly more challenging and added more visuals to catch the attention of the person playing the game.

2. What aspect of your finished work do you find least successful and why?

The aspect of my finished work I find least successful is the rain drops I created on the first level. They don't look the way I wanted them to and don't fall as I planned them to. Every time I tried to create them as a tween, the ship/ hot air balloon would hit the raindrops and crash( making you have to start over again). This I fixed by putting the raindrops in the back round layer and having them change when you click the play button and finish the level.

3. What do you like about your finished work that you think is better than the original game?

I believe that my idea for the game is creative and fun. It looks like the sky and the hot air balloon looks better than the ship in the original. The levels are also more difficult than the original, making the person playing have more of a challenge and want to continue playing the game. Finally, I like the colours of my game better than the original, because they flow better and are more colourful and attractive to the player.

Moonlander Game Reflection:

My insperation for the re-creation of the moonlander game is hot air balloons. It think it would look good if the rocket was a hot air baloon instead and was in a sky scene. The hot air balloon could land on each of the landing panels and the fuel spot would be inside of the balloon instead of underneath or on the sides of it. I think the balloon would look three dimensional with many colours and the backround being a sunset. Below is the pictures that are giving me insperation for re-creating the game.

Barbara Kruger Photo Reflection

1.What do you see in this piece of art (describe it)?
In the forth photo, I see a statue or monument that a person on a phone doesn't even bother to look at. The statue is the one saying how the phone annoys it as everyone on the phone doesn't pay attention to the statue. The picture is saying that we spend to much time on our phones to pay attention to the world around us.

2. What kind of message is the artist giving in this piece of art?
I think the message in this picture is that we need to pay more attention to each other and our surroundings. Many people are attached to their phone and would rather text than talk to people. I believe the picture is telling us to pay attention to the world and people around us rather than our phones.

3. Do you like or dislike Kruger’s work? Why?
I like her work a lot because it is about things that happen in everyday life. Most of her work relates to everyone and can make you really think about how you/ people around you live their life. I love the way the words stick out in red and black. They make an impact on you when you look at them..

Reflection for Photo Text Assignment:

1. What I Like Most:
The thing I like the most about my pictures is how unique and different each of the pictures look after adding the text and filters. I think that the colours and the filters all work extremely well together and that everything in the pictures moves your eyes around the whole thing. I think all of the text fits really well in the picture and looks like it belongs to the photo. Also, I love the lyrics I chose. They make you look deeper into the true meanings of the pictures. Finally, I like how each picture has the same "properties", but all have a different feel and meaning to them. They all look different, but the same as you look deeper into the photos.

2. What Can Be Improved:
The things that I would improve about my photos is putting the text in different fonts. For each picture, most of the fonts are the exact same of fairly close to the other pictures. To make the pictures even more unique, I think it would look better if the text was different. Also, I would feather the pictures in the back round of the third (brown) picture. They fit well in the back, but if you look close you can see the lines of where the face starts and finishes. Finally, I would add more filters to the first picture (colour). This one seems a little plain and could use something to make in more detailed and unique.

3. Which specific picture was most successful of the three?:
The picture I think that was the most successful was the third picture (brown). I love the colour of the picture and how the different filters bring the whole picture together. I like how my face is doubled in the back round and how the lyrics fit into this picture. Also, I like the brown on the picture. It stands out a lot wen you look at it and makes it very unique from the other photos. Finally, I like the cross in the water and the smoke in the back. They contradict themselves, but fit together as well to tell a story.

Description Of Design:

I designed what i thought a needless injection tool would look like. The top of it has holes in which you can insert vile's of medicine in. On the bottom are pores and suction cups that attach to your skin and allow the medicine to travel through the pores of your skin. This allows for easy injections, more sanitary operations, and virtually no pain to the person receiving the injection.

Needless Injection Design:

Invention Design Reflection

I believe my most successful part of my invention was making the bumps on the underside of the needless injection tool. They look realistic and seem to be all in proportion. I believe that this part of my invention shows how needless injection can be done and go through your skin, rather than puncturing your skin. The part that I found least successful was the cartridges at the top of the tool. They were hard to smooth out and didn't shape in the way I wanted them to look. I think that needless injections would be a great invention for the future because, not many people like getting needles and many people have a fear of needles. Using this tool would eliminate their fear and allow people to get injections without the tool being invasive or going into your skin. This would make it easier for children and even pets as well in the future. Children and pets also seem to have a fear of needles and needles may cause pain to people, thus their fear of needles has occurred.

Invention Design

Step 1:#1. I believe Da Vinci invented all of these different designs because this is what he believed our future would look like. Everyone has their own view of what our future should look like and these are just his perspective of what our future would look like. He thought that there would be my air craft and war objects probably because of past wars that he experienced. Also, he may of thought that travel would be easier if we could fly places, and he was right. Many of his predictions are actual objects we use now.

#2. I think that Da Vinci's design of the helicopter/ flying device has made a big impact on modern society, because back before there were flying devices, people had to drive or walk to places which took days/ months. Now with this new flying device, we can get from place to place within a few hours. This has made travelling for people easier and more convenient.

Three Inventions that would Enrich our Lives:

1. A shoe that you can change the speeds on it to make you walk faster. This would help us stay in shape by wanting to walk/ and or run to places. Also, we would be able to get to places on time since we could change the speed of our shoes.

2. New I pod shuffle has new design. It has a carrying handle and never has to be charge. This make it better as we don't need to use up our energy to charge our device and we never have to worry about it dying.

3. There is a new sketch book. It is like an i- pad but allows you to draw/ sketch on it and for your drawings to become 3-d. This makes it easier for artists and architects to show their ideas in a new way.

My Hidden Self Reflection

My image shows my alter ego through a variety of pictures and brushes. The waterfall and the sunset show my soft side and my interest with nature. While on the other side, the balloons and the bright radar colours by the airplane show my fun and outgoing side. This variety of pictures shows who my hidden self is and my dreams and passions such as architecture which is displayed with the picture of the pencil, the compass and the house in the back round. I believe my most successful part of my image is my and the house. I believe I did a good job feathering and using opacity to make it look like my photo fits good in the image. Also, I believe that the house is a good opacity and fits right in. The least successful I think would be the compass. I don't think it fit the image correctly. To improve my picture, I would add more pictures with a variety of sizes to make the picture more unique and detailed.

My Hidden Self

Five interesting things that most people don't know about me are:
1. I am a very outgoing person. At school i seem more reserved, but when I'm at home or with friends I am a lot more outgoing.

2. I love to learn about the weather. I always pay attention to the weather systems in our country and can predict when certain storms will hit our area by reading the weather data available.

3. I love to draw and design houses. I plan on being an architect when i go off to school next year. In my spare time i design houses on a program I have at home.

4. I like to write about my life and my goals in life in a journal at home. It helps me to get my thoughts on paper and out of my head. Also it allows me to look back at it and know what i was thinking or doing in the past.

5. I love waterfalls. My favourite place to be is near the water and especially Niagara Falls. I love the sound of them and the way they look. They are so peaceful and calming.

Three things that my friends would say about my personality:

1. My friends would say my personality in fun. I love to have fun and live life in the moment. We always have fun and there is never a dull moment when me and my friends are all together.

2. My friends would say my personality is also protective. If people are in danger or in need, I will be like a mother and help them. I don't like to leave stuff messy or making a mess of someone else's place, so if there is one, I'm most likely to  help them clean up if they want help (dishes from a dinner, or chairs at a campfire etc.).

3. My friends would say my personality is layed back. I have a sense of humor and don't over exaggerate things. I go with the flow and try and make sure everyone I'm with is having fun and getting along.

Something I would like to change about my self is how busy I am. When someone asks me to help them with something or to volunteer, I have a hard time saying no. I don't usually have a lot of time to myself, in which I wish I had.

My five biggest goals/ dreams:

1. One of my goals is to become an architect or a drafter.

2. Another one of my goals is to build my own house in the future/ and or other peoples houses.

3. Another one of my goals is to fly in an air plane. I'm not afraid of flights, but I am terrified of a plane crashing or being hijacked.

4. A goal I have, is to learn as much as possible about architecture without going over board. I love knowing all kinds of info, but find myself being taught stuff that has no relevance to what I want to become in the future.

5. Finally, my last goal is to be myself and not change because someone doesn't like me.

Finally, my hidden self is an outgoing, fun person who likes designing houses and leaning about the weather. I dream about flying to France and travelling to places with waterfalls.
